Nchito Community Initiative
Bringing clean water, dignity, and sustainable income to Chongwe District
In Shiloto Village in Chongwe District near Lusaka, Zambia, access to clean water is still a daily struggle.
For many families, especially elderly people, pregnant women, and children, getting water means walking more than 5 kilometres every day just to collect water for drinking, cooking, and washing. Imagine carrying heavy containers under the hot African sun simply to bring water home for your family. This is the reality for the people of Shiloto Village.
Because the few boreholes available are located far from the village, many vulnerable people struggle to reach them. Some elderly residents and pregnant mothers are forced to depend on others to help them fetch water. Without reliable water access, children miss school, families struggle with hygiene, and the community faces serious health risks.
Clean water will mean: Women and children no longer walking 5 km for water · Improved health and sanitation · Children spending more time in school · A stronger, self‑sustaining community. The chicken project will help families earn income, creating long‑term independence.
